Nedjelja, 21465 Jelsa, Hvar / Croatia t: + 385 (0) 21 745 725, f: + 385 (0) 21 745 709 ZlatanOtok@ZlatanOtok.hr The family horticulturist company Vitis was formed in early 1986, marking the beginning of our operation. In 1993, the company changed its name to Zlatan Otok. Under this name, we continue to do our business. Our vineyards are located in the south area of the Hvar Island, where Plavac Mali is the predominant variety, and in the Podbiokova area in the Makarsko Vinogorje, where we planted a new vineyard in 2004, on the altitude between 30m and 400m above sea level. The vineyard lies under the Biokovo highlands. 650 000 vines grow there, on 75 ha of surfaces. Most of them are of the Plavac Mali variety. In addition, we also planted: Crljenak (Zinfandel), Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, while white grapes comprise mostly old varieties: Pošip, Žilavka, Dubrovačka Malvazija, and also Chardonnay and Žuti Muškat (Yellow Muscat). We are currently in the process of obtaining the Croatian Organic Certificate. From the very beginning of our operation, we have been successful at various competitions at home and abroad, among others: Zagreb, Zurich, Bordeaux, Ljubljana, the Gast trade fair … Our wines regularly place amongst the very best. Over one hundred awards, medals and championship titles adorn our walls. Let us enumerate just the medals we received at the latest competitions within the framework of the Gast trade fair GAST 2008: GRAND CRU 2003 – GOLD MEDAL, GRAND CRU 2001 – GOLD MEDAL, GRAND CRU 2004 – GOLD MEDAL, GRAND CRU 2005 – CHAMPION WINE, ZAVALA 2007 – SILVER MEDAL, ZAVALA 2006 – SILVER MEDAL, ZL.PLAVAC BARRIQUE 1997 – SILVER MEDAL. Furthermore, ever since the title of Winemaker of the Year has been introduced in Croatia, Mr. Plenković has had the honour of taking first or second place each consecutive year. In the Marina, but a few paces from the hotel, you will find the Bilo Idro restaurant, where exquisite seafood, meat specialties, salads and deserts are offered between May 15th and October 15th. Here, you can also taste and purchase our wines. The restaurant is open from 9.00 am till 01.00 am. Guests can also choose from a sea pool live crabs and lobsters who will be cooked by using best Dalmatian recipes. We have a unique under sea wine cellar with a submarine window view where we keep our archive wines and where we can organise wine degustations. Vessels up to 18m in length, with a draught of up to 4m may dock in the Marina. Right next to the sea, we have a pension in Sveta Nedelja, with a capacity for 30 guests. The house is built in terraces, suiting the terrain, and stands amidst pine trees that offer pleasant shade to visitors of the beach in the summer. The rooms are on the ground and top floors, while the middle floor houses the kitchen, dining hall and our vista terrace, where we serve breakfast and dinner. We offer half pension rates in the time period between June 1st and October 1st. Rooms are of various sizes, accommodating between one and three guests. All rooms have their own bathroom. Contact: antonia.buratovic@inet.hr ***Zlatan Plavac Barrique*** The wine is made from the grapes of the variety Plavac Mali, which have ripened in various vineyards on the southern slopes of the Hvar Island. The maceration of grapes lasts for 7 to 8 days. The wine maturates for one year and a half in new and old barriques, and for another half a year in bottles. The ripe barrique wine has a dark red colour with shades of burnt orange. Rich and complex nose with light animal note and aromas of dried plums, cherry kernel and chocolate. Rich, concentrated and savoury palate with a lingering aftertaste. This wine will only begin to reach its peak after six years of maturation. Mi_Z 2010/01/16
