Vaccaro Wines was founded in 1970 by Giacomo Vaccaro and is located in the middle of Belice’s Valley. This velley is not far away from the beautiful Selinunte, in the small town of Salaparuta. The town was hit by an earthquake in 1968. Salaparuta takes its name from the “Paruta” family. But this was not because they were the founders of the town but because in 1507 they were able to add their family name “Paruta” to the primitive town’s name – Sala. Since ancient times the area was occupied by different civilizations such as the Phoenicians, Greeks, and Romans, leaving a wealth of heritage and folklore. For example, vineyards were born thanks to the Greeks who imported new vines to Sicily. Hence it was more than appropriate that such a winery could be set up in such a milieu – a spectacular environment among green hills full of vineyards blown by mythological winds like Scirocco, Maestrale, Ponente and Libeccio.
